Aircraft Data
The DC-8 is a medium to long range 4 engined airliner. It was the first jet powered airliner from Douglas, and the USA's second successful jet airliner after the Boeing 707. It was developed into many variants of differing ranges and capacities.
The DC-8 Series 61 was designed for high capacity and medium range. It had the same wings, engines and pylons as the -53, and sacrificed range to gain capacity. To cope with the extra length, local strengthening had to be undertaken.
