- On a -10C Anchorage day the amount of preparation to get a big radial powered aircraft moving is massive. Engine warming blankets surround her R-2800 engines being filled with warm air to warm the oil prior to start. The warmers also heat the flight deck to stop radios getting to cold and avoid thermal damage when turned on in the sub zero temperatures. It is truly a team effort to operate these aircraft in the harsh Alaskan winter.
